Do you remember the Que Club on Corporation St in Birmingham during the mid nineties? Did you go to an Atomic Jam night? Did you ever see Eat Static play at Atomic Jam with flames, stilt walkers, aliens and a giant electronic brain? If so, you may have heard us scream from the Art Nouveau church balconies as they tore our faces off with mind melting psychedelic rhythms. Fourteen years later, we have finally drummed up enough cash to invite Merv from Eat Static to come and play a two-hour DJ set on Friday night and a two-hour live set Saturday night.
This night had fruition in my 1983 Escort as we drank cider and smoked skunk at the famous Cider House in Quatt. Fresh out of school and big Ozrics fans, we listened to Implant and Abduction albums back to back on a cassette tape. The Cider House special brew and the first toke hit me like a freight train. The small red LED dot on the dashboard suddenly became a tunnel to a different galaxy. One in which you couldn’t find your lighter. If you have not seen Eat Static before, you have to remember a few things such as; ‘if it’s lost, don’t try to find it’, ‘don’t bother, you may not be able to get any higher’ and ‘dancing may keep the aliens away’.
